Simple daily exercises to grow your brain
June 17, 2019
Last week I challenged you to begin to do simple exercises in your daily life to improve your brain’s executive functioning. This week I’m challenging you to continue adding simple exercises into your daily routine. Choose three from this list below, reminding yourself you’re improving your brain’s executive function. Keep doing what you started last week and add three more from this list:
Try some eye exercises: when sitting still (I typically do these weekly during the church sermon), find a letter in the distance, focus your sight on it, now find the same letter close to you and focus on it. Do this repeatedly. This exercise strengthens your eye muscles.
When riding in the car, tap each of your fingers to your thumb. This strengthens your digits, which lose strength as we age.
Or…when riding in the car, tap your flat hand (palm up then palm down) so you repeatedly and rapidly synchronize your hands. Coordination can waver as we age.
Walk the stairs instead of taking the elevator. If your destination is up 20 flights or more of stairs, start with one flight, then take the elevator. Just mix it up a bit to keep your body curious.
Call up a good friend, your mom or sister, and ask them to go on a walk with you. Tell them what you are doing.
That’s it for this week. Well done. I’ll have my blog post next week filled with more simple exercises to include into your everyday. Awesome job Living the Encouraged Life. Lynn
